The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

close up photo

Raven Assemblage

There is a new challenge site called Quoth the Raven, Nevermore. Their first challenge is to create something with a raven. I read the poem and couldn't wait to get crafting.

I found an image on line and printed it onto a piece of scrapbook paper. I added some color with chalks. I laminated the design for stability. A small iridescent red seed bead was used for the raven's eye.

The base of my assemblage is constructed from two wooden spools. One spool has the words "the raven" decoupaged onto it. The other spool is wound with black eyelash yarn. The top of the spool is covered with mini black beads. I also added a tulle bow and black feathers to the composition.

I'm going to tweak this mixed media assemblage raven a bit, take some better photos in the daylight and then place it in my Etsy shop.

Along with Quoth the Raven, Nevermore; I am entering this assemblage in the following challenges:

Through the Craftroom Door - #18 anything but a card and DIY embellishment
CES Challenge - #69 anything but a card
Crafting When We Can - #10 something not intended for crafting

Please check out the design team samples on the above listed sites. You will be inspired to create a masterpiece of your own!

My Heart Has Wings

Fairy Heart Assemblage

February is almost upon us. When I think of February, Valentine's Day comes to mind. I created this whimsical fairy with love and hearts in mind.

The butterfly collage is created with clip art butterfly wings, a heart cut from a jewelry catalog and a face stamped onto scrapbook paper. The rubber stamp is from Inkadinkadoo. I then laminated the design to add stability. The laminated butterfly was then embellished. For the challenge on Through the Craftroom Door, I created my own embellishment by cutting a princess crown out of black felt. I also added sparkle and bling with shiny red and golden yellow rhinestones. The words "my heart has wings" were printed on my computer and adhered to the wooden tumbler game block with modge podge.

This little heart fairy is going to end up on a shelf in my Etsy Store. I hope she finds a lovely home.

I am entering this mixed media assemblage in the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp and Show - anything but a card
The Artistic Stamper - vintage
Through the Craftroom Door - #18 anything but a card and DIY embellishment

Ready to get my freak on!

Chic Freak Card

I created this card with a rubber stamp from Simply Betty Stamps called Steampunk Emo Rio. I stamped the image onto a piece of scrapbook paper and then lightly colored in parts of the image with chalks, colored pencils and markers. I added some glitter on the skeletons and her boots to make them shine.  She has a real feather on her jaunty top hat and fuschia tulle added to her skirt.

The card is embellished with silver punchinella ribbon (sequin waste) and black and fuschia eyelash yarn.

The challenge at Haunted Design House Macabre Monday is to create something that is "chic freak". In the 70's there was a song called "Le Freak" to use as in inspiration. I think this lady is dressed to get her freak on!

I am also entering this card into the anything goes challenge sponsored by Crafty Sentiments.

It's been a while since I created a card for a challenge. It felt good to be back in the craftroom! Please visit the above listed sites and check out the beautiful creations you will find there.
