Tuesday Alchemy DT - #42

 TUESDAY ALCHEMY
CHALLENGE #42

The Tuesday Alchemy Challenge this week is ANYTHING GOES.  Please check  the site for challenge rules and prizes.

I created this Steampunk Butterfly ornament from an altered wooden ice cream spoon. I painted the ice cream stick yellow and then used permanent ink to stamp on the image. The rubber stamp is from A Stamp in the Hand. I went around the edges with colored pencils and blushed her cheeks with some chalk. I applied two light coats of spray varnish to set the colors. The butterfly is clipart from Dover. I laminated the butterfly to add stability and durability to the ornament. The two pieces are joined with double stick tape. I used Ranger Glossy Accents dimensional glue to adhere the letters to spell fly. I use Ranger Glossy Accents for attaching embellishments when I want a really strong bond. To attach a hanger to my ornament, I used black chain and jump rings.

I hope you have been inspired to create something for this weeks ANYTHING GOES Challenge on Tuesday Alchemy. Please also check out the wonderful creations my fellow design team members have created.

I am entering this ornament in the following challenges:

Paper Playtime - #89 anything goes

Twisted Holiday Card

Oh this card was so much fun to create. I used the Zombie Classics - Mona Lisa digital stamp from Smeared Ink for my image. I attempted to color her with pencils and baby oil but need some practice with this technique. Lots of practice, lol! I removed Mona from her background and gave her a Christmas cap and some tinsel. She is ready to PAR-Tee!!! Or maybe she partied a little too much! Things like that happen at Office Parties.

Altered Game Piece Magnet

I created this magnet with a chipboard card from a children's Memory Game that I picked up at a garage sale over the Summer. I covered the card with design paper and then used a rubber stamp to stamp on the bird cage. The bird is a metal charm that is sponged with the same color acrylic paint that I used on the edges of the card. It looks like green on the card and more blue on the bird. I used letter beads to spell the word fly.

I am entering this magnet in the following challenges:

Gecko Galz Altered Clothespin Fairy

Gecko Galz had a Blog Hop in October and gave away some wonderful Collage Sheets. The Design Team Members created a variety of artwork using the sheets for inspiration. It was great eye candy! To give the participants an extra chance to win some wonderful prizes, Gecko Galz is sponsoring a challenge on their blog site. You have until November 24th to enter. Check it out here.

I created an altered clothespin fairy for the bonus challenge. I painted a clothespin and wooden spool black and glued them together with dimensional paint. I then glued the spool to a black plastic poker chip (you could probably leave this step out or use a wooden circle).

I used collage images from these three sheets to create my fairy:

Asian Beauty
Sew and Sew
Butterflies and Birds

I added some chalks to enhance the colors of the images. Once my collage was arranged and tacked down with a glue stick, I laminated the collage for durability. I then used strong double stick tape to adhere my collage to the front and the mini dressform to the back of my structure. I added some sequins, seed beads, a blue rhinestone and some yarn to finish my Gecko Galz Fairy.

Along with the Gecko Galz Challenge, I am entering this pretty fairy in the following challenges:

Creative Moments - #4 anything goes
The Squirrel & Fox - #31 anything goes
The Corrosive Challenge - #162 flutter by

I colored the image with MS Paint and added chalk for shadows. I added the words "Happy Holidays" to the image. I paper punched the snowflake element and added lots of glitter to the design. I inked around the outside of the card and added a hanger with some funky glittery yarn.

I hope you will be inspired to create something that is not a card for the Tuesday Alchemy challenge! Please visit the site and see what the other design team members have created for your inspiration!

Altered Jar - Circus Girl

I created this circus girl in a jar for the Gecko Galz Yahoo Group Challenge. The image is from Gecko Galz. They sell a wide variety of collage sheets for crafters to use in their artwork. Check it out.

I added some chalk to the image to make it really colorful. I glued the image to a piece of cardstock and then cut out around it. I then glued the image to a large craft stick to give it even more support. I left about an inch on the bottom to stick into the rice. I added some sequins to the design and the jar contents. I glued some black pom pom trim around the top of the jar.

I had fun photographing the jar outside on my neighbor's fence. It was the perfect backdrop for a jar fairy. I couldn't decide which pic I liked best so I posted them all.

I am entering this altered jar in the following challenges:

Giving Thanks Card

I used the Mrs. Skellington from Dilly Beans Stamps for my image on this card. I colored the image with MS Paint and then added some chalk shadows, red marker for the hearts and some glitter. I added ribbon to the plaid paper I used for a background. She has a colorful fabric bow to help brighten up her lack of complexion, lol! I love Dilly Bean stamps! Check out the store for a wide variety of images to use in your artwork.

Top Tip: Scraps of fabric make great embellishments for your artwork. Larger pieces can be used as backgrounds instead of design papers.  Small pieces can be used as patches on clothing or as bows. Fabric adds color and texture to your artwork!

Smeared & Smudged November Blog Hop

Blog Roll:

When I learned the Smeared & Smudged November Blog Hop was to alter something, I got really excited. I headed off to the thrift store to find something to alter and repurpose. Thrift stores are a treasure trove of goodies to reinvent. I bought this ceramic candle holder to recreate. I spray painted the house black and then found my Smeared Ink Quoth the Raven digital set and began to play. I thought Edgar would make a good altered raven. I also used the wings, skull and words from the set on the piece. I had fun creating and photographing this Raven House.

Now, please have a look at what Fiona has altered!

TOP TIP - Chalks are an easy way to add shadows and dimension to your paper arts. You can use them over or under pencils or a combination of both. I use my computer for sentiments most of the time. You can add a little chalk to the paper to help it blend in with the background.

I am entering this ATC in the following challenges:

Pendant Necklace - Altered Game Piece - Vintage Woman

I created this pendant with a "Bob the Builder" Memory Game piece. I picked up the game at a garage sale over the summer. I knew as soon as I opened the box that they would make excellent brooches, pendants and magnets. I always like to craft green when I can.

I used a variety of mixed media techniques to prepare the chipboard card. I then cut out my image from a collage sheet by Moonlight Journey. This one was a freebie but they have lots of sheets in their online store to choose from. I used mod podge to attach my image and then I covered the front and back with two coats of varnish to increase durability and water resistance.

The pendant is hung on 20" of copper toned chain with a spring ring clasp closure. A golden colored half pearl was added to her headband for some dimension. The woman has a very soulful expression.

You can make your own altered game piece pendant or this one is listed in my Etsy Store.

Wooden Spool Necklace

I made this spool necklace from three mini-wooden spools (3/4" long) and two smaller spools (1/2" long) that I painted brown and slightly distressed with sand paper. I glued abstract printed fabric onto the spools. I created a tassel with some sock yarn that had the appearance of embroidery floss. I covered my gathering knot with a small piece of the fabric. The spools are strung on 20" of copper-tone chain. Take the spools with you to the craft store to buy some chain that will fit through the holes in the spool. The necklace is a useful way to use up some of those fabric scraps you have laying around. Hmmmm, I'm thinking the smaller spools alone would make a cute bracelet.

If you like this necklace, it is listed in my Etsy Shop.
