Birds, Eggs and Nest Tag

Egg Shaped Tag

I created this egg shaped tag using pages pulled from a damaged book. I sewed two layers together to give it substance. I used a faux speckled egg technique offered by Helga Strauss from Artchix on Gingersnap Creations. I used clipart from Artchix Studio and Graphics Fairy. The tag is embellished with a paper flower, a yarn pom pom and yarn fiber was used for the tag string.

I am entering this tag in the following challenges:

Divas by Design - #22 wings & things
Simon Says Stamp - tag it
2 Sisters Challenge - #79 stitching
One Stop Challenge - #170 create your own background

Rhinestone Gem Bobby Pins

Gemstone Bobby Pins

These sparkly bobby pins were made from adhesive rhinestones found in the scrapbook department of Michael's craft store. The rhinestone is about 11/16th of an inch and faceted. They really catch the light. I removed the adhesive backing from the rhinestone and used hot glue to attach it to a 2" silver hair pin with a bezel. I found these at Hobby Lobby.

I am a scrapbook embellishment hoarder. I pick up every little trinket that catches me eye. Until, I run out of room for everything in my craft space and then I come up with ideas to use them.

If you like to be unique and have one of a kind accessories, you have to make them yourself. Or, these little gems are waiting at my Etsy Store.

Fabric Covered Button Bobby Pins

Vintage & Damask Inspired Bobby Pins

Scrap book embellishments can make some very pretty bobby pins. Lately, I have been trying to clean out some of my scrap book supplies. I found a good use for fabric covered button brads. I decided to make hair pins out of them. I cut the brad off the back with wire cutters as close to the base as I could. I then hot glued the button to the bezel provided on the bobby pin. You can get really sturdy bobby pins with a flat area for gluing or a bezel type at Hobby Lobby craft store.

Take a second look at your scrap book supplies. If you like to add flair to your hair, scrap book supply bobby pins are easy and affordable to make. I have listed the above hair fasteners in my Etsy Store.

Magazine & Cereal Box Brooch

Paper Brooch

I created this brooch from magazine pages. I used a 1 5/8" punch to cut out the circles. I glued the circles together so that they created a fan effect. I used a piece of cereal box for the base of the brooch. I think recycling is important. This was an easy way to create something pretty out of a discarded magazine. You could use advertisements and junk mail also. So many possibilities!

I used only green images for this brooch so that I could enter the "glorious green" challenge going on at Gingersnap Creations. I embellished the center of my brooch with mini green seed beads. They are one of my favorite embellishments. I am entering this brooch in the "favorite embellishment" challenge at Little Darlings.

Glorious Green Collage

Vintage Lady Collage Wall Hanging

I was inspired by the artwork and challenge on Simon Says Stamp and Show. Their challenge was to create a piece with torn edges, distress ink, buttons and wings. What an interesting combo.

My background paper is torn from a damaged book. I folded over the top of the page and stitched it down, leaving room to insert a large popsicle stick. I drilled some holes in the stick and attached some wire and beads for my hanger. It reminds me of a scroll.

My designs were from clipart books and catalogs. I used some distress ink, tore some pieces, bent some edges and left some pieces unglued to create texture and dimension to the piece.  I embellished the collage with some of my favorite embellishments. I used six chartreuse buttons, a green gem and a piece of lace-like yarn to bring this paper collage to life!

I'm so pleased with this wall hanging that I will be offering it in my Etsy store.

I am entering this wall hanging in the following challenges:
