Skull Necklace - Paper Pendant

This skull cameo on a bowtie paper pendant necklace was handcrafted using a technique that I have developed. I call my paper jewelry creations Gypsy Paper Trinkets.

Gypsy Paper Trinkets are made from re-purposed paper. Layers of paper are transformed into wearable art using a technique that I have developed. They are textural and pliable, not completely glued flat like chipboard. Held sideways, you can count the layers of paper used as the base of the trinket. Designs are sealed for durability and moisture resistance.

This necklace comes with a 22" gold-tone chain and a spring ring clasp closure. The bow tie skull pendant measures 3" x 1.75". The skull is a digital stamp from Smeared Ink. The pendant is embellished with six golden rhinestones.

This necklace is listed in my Etsy Store.

See my blog for a tutorial on how to create layered paper jewelry of your own design.

Oh The Horror July S&S Challenge

Dr. Horrible Card
This month the "Oh! The Horror!" Challenge on Smeared and Smudged was based on the movie "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog". I didn't watch the movie but listened to the videos on Youtube to get a feel for the movie.

I used an image of Dr. Horrible I found on Google. I added the lyrics from the song "My Eyes" found in Act II of the movie. I used a raven from my "Quoth the Raven" digital set from Smeared Ink to add to the cards "creep" factor. The card is embellished  with tulle, a blue seed bead and two black rhinestones.

I am also entering this card in the following challenges:

Keys to My Heart Card

Keys to My Heart Card

I had fun making this card. The heart and skull image is a digital stamp from Smudgetastic Digis. I created this card for a challenge on their Smudger Challenge Blog. The challenge was to incorporate a heart into your project. The card also meets the requirements for quite a few other challenges. See the list below.

I colored the image with MS Paint. I added a hat and the word "foxy" to the image. The card is embellished with a metal tag that says "my heart". I hope this will work for the "use a tag" challenges. I also added a scrap of yellow fabric for a jaunty bowtie, metal charms, glossy accents on the eyes and a seed bead for one of the pupils. I used gray, cream, brown and yellow for the July color challenge going on at Catch the Bug.

I am also entering this card in the following challenges:

Rock N Rolla July S&S Challenge

Card inspired by "Sail" Awolnation

I created this card for the Rock N Rolla July Challenge going on at Smeared and Smudged. The challenge was to create an art piece inspired by the song "Sail" by Awolnation. They have the video clip on their site. You will find yourself singing the song in your head long after you listen to it.

I used digital stamps from Smeared Ink. The wings came from the "Quoth the Raven" set and "Edgar" was a freebie I received from participating in their June Challenge. I colored the image with chalks. The wings were printed on green scrapbook paper. I attached the digital elements with foam tape to make the images "pop" off the card. The wings are mounted in the center so they appear free to fly away.

The card is embellished with a metal watch face and a turquoise button. I used Glossy Accents on the eyes and used a seed bead as a pupil in the larger eye. I like the look of tulle in my creations so I stapled that to the background paper before mounting it on the cardstock card. I added the words "sail with me into the dark". They are lyrics from the song.

I am also entering this card in the following challenges:

Smudgy Antics - pop art
Simon Says Stamp - anything goes

Unusual Alice in Wonderland Challenge

Alice in Wonderland Card

I created this Alice in Wonderland card for a challenge going on at Poisoned Peas. The challenge was to create an "unusual Alice in Wonderland" card. I found the most peculiar Alice image I could find and then further enhanced her strangeness by further elongating her neck with buttons. It just so happens that some of my other favorite challenges require buttons this week. I colored the image with chalks and colored pencils. The skeleton key is a rubber stamp from Simply Betty Stamps. The key is mounted to the card with double glue dots to make it "pop out" from the card. The card is embellished with two yellow buttons, a turquoise ribbon bow and a golden metal heart lock charm.

Along with the Poisoned Peas challenge (#5 Unusual Alice), I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Fat Pages with Attitude - #18 anything goes

Steampunk Challenge Card

Steampunk Card
I love working with vintage and steampunk images. I found this great image at The Graphics Fairy. They have wonderful designs that are free for crafters to use. I printed the design on scrapbook paper that reminded me of vintage wallpaper. I attached the design to a 5 x 5 black cardstock card. I used a rubber stamp from Hero Arts to stamp the words "Nothing is Impossible to a Willing Heart" on red paper. I then cut out the words, ransom note style, and added the saying to the card. The card is embellished with blue abaca ribbon, and steampunk embellies from the Tim Holtz collection.

I created this tag with an image from The Graphics Fairy. This site offers a wide variety of graphics and images that crafters are free to use in their artwork. Check it out!

I punched out the image with a 3" paper punch. I cut a larger circle out of black cardstock to stabilize the image. I added the word "wings" to the design. The tag is embellished with a metal cog, two golden half-pearls, a pink metal eyelet and some colorful eyelash yarn.

Famous Monster ATC

Frankenstein ATC
I created this ATC with a movie poster image I found on Google. I printed the poster twice and then cut out "Frankie" and the word "Frankenstein". I used two "Frankie" images and layered them with foam tape to make the ATC dimensional. Frankenstein's face seems to be "popping" off the card. I enhanced the poster colors with chalks. I used some sparkly glitter glue and and lime green glitter on the writing. The background paper is stamped with a grate design from Smeared Ink. It is part of the Quoth the Raven set. I used a large gold seed bead for the bolt on Frankie's neck and some sequin cloth to give the card further dimension.

I am entering this ATC in the following challenges:

ATC's with Attitude - #18 anything goes
Wicked Wednesday - #41 famous monster
Haunted Design House - #143 movie madness

Smeared & Smudged "BRING THE HEAT" Blog Hop

Photobucket

Blog Roll:

                                    Ike

Flaming Heart Brooch

When I first read about the "Bring the Heat" blog hop, I knew I wanted to use one of my newly purchased Milagro digital stamps from Smeared Ink. I just didn't know what to make. I like to make jewelry so I decided to make a brooch.

I printed the Milagro Heart on a piece of orange scrapbook paper and colored the image with chalks and colored pencils. I added red and gold glitter for the flames. I then cut out the image and laminated it with 7 ml. lamination paper. I used Mod Podge to adhere the word "hope" to a round turquoise mosaic ceramic tile and used varnish to seal it. The tile is attached to the pin with Glossy Accents dimensional glue from Ranger. I also used the Glossy Accents to encircle the tile with silver seed beads.

The pin measures 2.25 x 1.5 inches. An adhesive pin back was added to the back. The pin is attached to a page torn out of an old book that I altered using gesso and watercolor crayons. A piece of orange tulle is held on with the pin. I added the words "hope is a flame burnin' in my heart". These are lyrics from a song called "Hope is a Flame" by Zane Williams. A link to the song is here.

I hope you like my brooch. I am giving it away at the end of the Blog Hop. If you would like to have a chance at winning this brooch, please say so in your comment.

Now it is time for you to jump over to Kathi's site and see what kind of "heat" she has created.

Steampunk Skull Necklace

Skull Paper Necklace

This colorful skull with orange butterfly wings paper pendant necklace was handcrafted using a technique that I have developed. If you would like information on how to construct your own paper trinkets, I have posted a tutorial on my blogger.

This necklace comes with a 20" silver-tone chain with a spring ring clasp closure. The chain on this necklace has a black enameled square link. The necklace comes packaged on a paint sample card in a cello sleeve.

This skull with wings pendant measures 4" x 1.75". It is embellished with a fabric bow and a rusty washer.

You can purchase this one of a kind necklace from my Etsy Store.

Crochet Button Hair Pins

These colorful bobby pins are made from fabric covered buttons with beautiful crocheted detail. The button brads were purchased in the scrapbook embellishment section of the craft store. I used pliers to remove the metal brad prongs and then the buttons were hot glued to the bezels of 2" long bobby pins. The fabric button is one inch around and very dimensional.

This set of two bobbies come with an orange and cream colored fabric button. Tangerine is a big color for this summer. These bobby pins will really spice up your hairstyle.

You can create a set of bobby pins for yourself or these are available in my Etsy Store.
