She was already colored but I added some more color with chalks. Alice is holding a little 3D book in her hand. In tiny print it says the book is illustrated by Lily Chilvers. Lily is the person who does the wonderful drawings for the Octopode Factory. She is so talented! Please take a look at the site and order some stamps from her.

Raven Upcycled Flashcard

Altered Flashcard
I wanted to create an upcycled art piece for Shell's September DT Challenge on Smeared & Smudged.  I used a children's flash card to create this little bit of art. I covered the image with a piece of page torn from an damaged hardcover book and used a watercolor crayon to give the background some color. The raven and the words "quoth the raven" are digital stamps from the Quoth the Raven set by Smeared Ink. I stamped a swirly-q design on the background with a Tim Holtz stamp. The card is embellished with lots of glitter to make the wings sparkle and a purple fabric bow.

I love collecting and using vintage illustrations in my artwork. This beauty came from Dover clipart. I cut out the design and placed it on orange with yellow polka dots designer paper. Skeleton Girl Altered Game Piece Necklace

This pendant was made with a 1.5 inch round wooden piece from an old Bottle Tops game. A collage image that I created was decoupaged onto the game piece and varnished for a smooth and water resistant surface. The image features a skull from a Cezanne painting, cherry blossom flowers and cute polka dots in the background. The larger flower is embellished with a golden rhinestone.

Decoupaging is so easy to do. If you find an image you like or create one of your own, you can attach it to almost anything. You can buy 1.5" wooden discs at the craft store if you are not lucky enough to find a game pieces you can alter.

If you don't want to make your own pendant, this "skellie" is listed in my Etsy Store.

Oh The Horror - September Challenge

Oh the Horror!
The Smeared & Smudged "Oh The Horror" Challenge for September is based on the movie "The Lost Boys". I didn't have a good vampire image so I used the image and the title from the movie poster provided on the site. For the background I rubber stamped a graveyard image with a tombstone and raven. The stamp is from Inkadinkado. The skull with wings is a digi stamp from Smeared Ink. I added a little color to the images with some chalks. I used Glossy Accents on the eyes to make them stand out. Scary movie, scary poster, I hope a scary card, lol!

The challenge on Smudgy Antics for this week is blackbirds. I'm going to add this card to their challenge and pardon the pun...kill two birds with one stone!

DIY Paper Brooch

I created this "skellie" brooch from one of my original collages. I used a skull image from a 1901 Cezanne Painting. The crown and bow tie were cut on my Cricut machine. The flower was cut from a plant catalog. I love to collage so I have a big collection of paper images that I play around with until I create a design I like.

I call this "skellie" my "prom king". He has a black with white polka dot bow tie and some kind of flower attached to his orange crown. He is embellished with a red rhinestone.

I used a high quality print of my original collage for the brooch. It is heat laminated with heavy 7 ml lamination film.

You can create your own paper collage and laminate it to make a brooch. If you do not have your own laminator, you can take it to an office supply store like Office Max. If you do not want to make your own brooch, this brooch is available in my Etsy Store.

Welcome Fall ATC

Candy Corn Favor

Candy Corn Favor
This candy treat was so sweet to make. I love candy corn so it was a good excuse to open the bag and test the freshness of the candy, lol! The mummy with the candy corn is a digital stamp from Bugaboo. The words are a digital stamp from Paper Dreams of Mine. I colored the image with MS Paint and then just aged the mummy with a little brown chalk. I also chalked the "Happy Halloween" sentiment. The bag topper is a piece of paper torn from a damaged book that I am recycling. I ran my stamp pad around the edges to distress it a little. The candy corn is by Brachs because (in my opinion) they have the best candy corn!

TOP TIP TUESDAY - pages from hardcover books work wonderful for all types of paper crafting. The paper is a nice weight for painting and stamping on. I use the text as background papers all the time. You can pick up damaged books that people are ready to throw out at garage sales and thrift stores. They are perfect for recycling projects.

I am entering this Halloween Party Favor in the following challenges:

Friends are Flowers Card

Card for a friend

I used three rubber stamps on my card. The flower is from Artistic Stamp, the face and sentiment are from Inkadinkado. I used a page torn from a damaged book as one of my rectangular pieces. For the circular pieces I used a poker game piece with a stamped face and sequins. The card is also embellished with some washi tape. After looking at all the wonderful ways you can use it on the Simon Says Stamp Blog Hop, I finally purchased some.

Along with the Rogue Redhead Challenge, I am also entering my card in the following challenges:

Smudger September Challenge #6 - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

This is my DT piece for the September Challenge on Smudger. The theme is to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The challenge is to create a piece that has at least one element that has been saved from the trash can.  There are so many items that we throw away everyday that can be used in art. Just a few examples are cereal boxes, newspapers, junk mail, magazines, envelops, food containers, jars, brown and plastic bags.

I created my Selkie Treasure Jar with the Selkie digital image from Smudgetastic. After coloring the image and printing it out, I sandwiched a cereal box between the image and a page torn out of a damaged book. I cut out the image once everything was dry. I embellished the image with a little chalk and some glitter. I added the words "Selkie legend" and "treasures" to the design. I glued a popcan pull tab to the back for a hanger. That way I didn't have to punch a hole into my design.

Inside the jar is some sand, shells, and a blue marble. A rolled up page from a damaged book that is tied with some really cool fiber yarn represents a scroll tied with a lock of the Selkie's hair. The jar is topped with a circular piece of the book page and random pearls. The tag is tied onto the jar with a piece of grey tee shirt.

A Selkie is a folklore creature. Selkies are said to live as seals in the sea but shed their skin to become human on land. Stories concerning selkies are generally romantic tragedies.

I hope you have been inspired to pull out your art supplies, find something to recycle and create something stunning for the September Smudger Challenge!
